Happy Father's Day to the Greatest Dad!

Jared had a good Father's Day.  He got to relax, watch some World Cup games and even got the meal of his choice (grilled pizzas and a chocolate Dream Whip pie), but the highlight for his day was when the boys shined Jared's shoes.  Their primary teacher gave them little cloths and told the kids to go home and clean their dad's shoes.  The boys were so excited.  Lucky Jared, you are the greatest dad!  You deserve to have clean shoes. 

Home Improvements!

We finally bit the bullet and had our roof replaced last week.  It is something that we have talked about for the last couple years.  2 years ago we noticed our first leak in our living room.  With all the rain we had this spring we found that we now had 3 leaks in our living room and one in the kitchen.  BLASTED!  So after having 3 companies give me bids and totally different opinions we finally decided which company to go with. 

These first 2 pictures show what was under the tiles around one of the areas that was leaking. 

When you replace a roof the only tiles that you replace are the ones that are cracked or broken.  All the others have to be stacked up and moved to another part of the roof so that they can get rid of the old underlayment and roll out the new.  See how the tiles are getting all stacked up? 

Closer picture of them stacking the tiles.  FYI, most of the tiles are not nailed on the roof.  They are put together almost like a puzzle.  Look at all these things I learned about roofing! 

Here are the extra tiles that were needed to replace the cracked or missing tiles.  The contractor had to look high and low for our same tile colors.  Of course they don't make them anymore.  Isn't that always the case when you are trying to replace something? 

There were usually between 6-8 guys working on the roof for at least 8 hours a day.  Our house at times got pretty loud because there was banging on every section of the roof.  It took them 3 days to finish the roof.

I wasn't outside when they found all the bird's nests and stuff under the tiles.  This is only a small section of the roof and what they found.  Birds have been one of the causes for our roof problems.  The little "treasures" that birds leave behind have so much acidity that it basically burns holes in the underlayment and then of course leaks will eventually happen. 

To try and help deter the birds from making nests in the roof we installed this black steel stuff called bird stops. 

See how the birds can't get under the tiles now?  Before that was open space and they could get up under the tiles.

INTRODUCING...

THE NEWEST MEMBER OF THE "BIG BOY CLUB." 

Jacob decided to start wearing big boy underwear on Thursday, June 17th.  He has had only a couple little accidents and has been dry at night as well.  He made it through church and today he even made it through the movie that I took the boys to (Alvin & the Chipmunks The Squeakquel).  The best part is that he knows when he needs to go, it's not me having to set the timer and remind him to go every 30 minutes or so! 

Can this mean that we can finally give back the changing table that has kind of been in the way for the last 3.5 years?  Does this mean that we no longer have to make Sam's Club runs just to buy diapers and wipes?????? 

 WAHOO Jacob!  We are sooooo proud of you!

Today is "Take Your Child to Work Day" at General Dynamics.  Jocelyn has been especially excited.  She has had her outfit picked out for several days now and wanted me to put curlers in her hair last night.  Don't work too hard ladies!
