Green Carpet

Just thought that we would share our beautiful grass in our backyard. This is the first time in our 10 years living in the Phoenix area, that we have had grass that looks this good. (Every October the grass goes dormant, so if you want grass in the winter you have to plant winter grass, which in turn dies off for the grass to grow back in spring.) We might have to go out and mow every once in awhile, but it sure beats shoveling snow!

Tagged

Well my friend Bree tagged me and I am supposed to post the 4th picture in my 4th folder. I don't know if Jared will love me for posting this or not (as well as some of the other great dads in the photo), but here goes. This picture was taken in February 2008. Our ward had a Daddy-Daughter Dance with a Hawain theme. This picture shows the dads learning to do some HULA moves. What great dads for getting out there and participating! So now I tag Keri, Jessica, & Tamara! Good luck!

Monumental Day!

Today was the day that our family finished The Book of Mormon! We have started and restarted countless times, but today we finally made it through the entire book. We have been trying to read in the mornings before the girls go to school. We are finally in a good routine, that even the boys are getting used to! Yeah! We did it!

Silent Sidelines at Saturday Soccer!!

All of Friday and Saturday games were called Silent Sidelines. The league that the girls are in dedicates 1 game per season that the sidelines are to be quiet. They do this to allow the players to better develop their game skills by communicating with each other without interference from coaches, parents or other spectators. Yep, there was no cheering or talking from their parents or coaches. The only talking that was going on was between the players and the ref (which happened to be Jared for both of the girls). As you walked in the gates for the game you were given a lollipop so that you could have that in your mouth versus trying to yell (I gave all of mine to the boys).

Jessica was the first game for our family on Saturday afternoon. The Firebolts really pulled together on the field and were working together really pretty well. I stayed and watched almost the entire game. They were winning by such a huge amount that I didn't think that I would miss much if I stepped out a little early and walked over to Jocelyn's game that was already in progress. Wouldn't you know that right when Jared was getting ready to blow the whistle for the end of the game, Jessica got a ball kicked right into her face. Luckily Jared was there, and I heard that a lot of people came running over to her to see if she was okay. She is fine and doesn't even have a mark to prove that it happened, but I am sure that it hurt like crazy because those balls are not soft, and those girls don't kick softly. The girl from the other team, that kicked the ball into Jess' face, came over an apologized to her at the end of the game. Jessica thought that was nice of her. Although she doesn't have a mark to prove what she did for her team she now has a great story to tell everyone for weeks to come.

Now we go over to Jocelyn's game. While I was sitting on the sidelines of Jocelyn's soccer game I realized that she is probably the nicest girl on her team. She might have even been the nicest girl on the opposing team as well. No, there was no punching or biting or screaming. . . let me explain.

As I sat on the sidelines I was watching Jocelyn. Bless her heart. She was one of the defenders for part of the game (for those not familiar with soccer terms that means she was supposed to be defending the goal so that the other team couldn't get by and score a goal past the goalie). Several times she was nice enough to let the opposing team take the ball right past her and try to get it into the goal. It seriously looked as if she just followed the ball with her eyes and watched it go past her without moving a muscle. I was glad for her sake that it was silent sidelines, but that didn't stop me from trying to get the boys to yell for her to kick the ball. That didn't work out too well though because most things they say all still sounds the same. :) Jared is such a good dad because when we came home he talked about all the things that she does good at her games, and then he talked a little about what things she can improve for the next game. Two things being that she needs to be a little more alert out on the field and kick the ball with a little more force. As he was talking to her about this, all I could think about was what songs I needed for her to listen to so that she could get all fired up before the next game. Yes I know, I am one of the parents that silent sidelines was initiated for. Jocelyn's team ended up pulling ahead and won their game. They are still undefeated.

It was a long day at the soccer fields. It is a lot of hard work trying to contain your cheers and enthusiasm at a game that your child is playing in. Not to mention running after 2 little boys who were by the end, covered with dead grass from head to toe. (They enjoyed their Tootsie Pops so much that they smeared it all over their bodies (including feet) and that is how they became covered with dead grass.) At the end of the day when the girls were still talking about their games, I changed my tune a little bit. Being perfect in their games isn't really the most important thing, but them having a good time is really what the game is all about.
